Late in Monday night's game between the 76ers and Hawks, Joel Embiid was caught giving the middle finger to Kevin Huerter. Embiid, finishing off a career night with a personal high 49 points, picked up a defensive rebound with about 24 seconds left in the game. NHL trade deadline 2020: Do Flames still need top-six forward after recent offensive outburst?

The Calgary Flames' offense has been firing on all cylinders in the month of February with Monday's matinee being the latest installment. On Family Day, Calgary trailed early in the third period 3-1 before mounting a comeback and scoring five unanswered goals — two of which capped off a first-ever hat trick by Andrew Mangiapane — to defeat the visiting Anaheim Ducks 6-4. With the recent scoring outburst, including two six-goal outbursts in the last week, does Calgary really need to still acquire a top-six forward? The answer is yes. The Flames entered the month of February ranked 26th in the NHL averaging 2.63 goals a game. After its latest win, they moved up to 22nd (2.85), so it would appear the offense is picking up steam. When is the NHL trade deadline 2020? Date, time, top targets

The playoff picture is starting to shape up which means a number of things, depending on where your team sits in the standings. It ultimately boils down to three main ideologies at the trade deadline: buying, selling or sitting. Teams looking to extend their season past 82 games are typically the ones shopping for one or two key pieces to prolong their Stanley Cup run. Where do they look for these pieces? From the sellers — the ones on the outside looking in and booking vacations for mid-April. These teams can still benefit from this relationship by securing future draft picks or dumping unwise contracts on other teams. Then there are those who sit idly by while the others do their bidding. Who won the Daytona 500? Full results, winner from NASCAR's 2020 season-opening race

The driver who won the 2020 Daytona 500 was the same driver who won last year's Daytona 500. Yet, in the hours after Denny Hamlin beat Ryan Blaney to the checkered flag in a photo finish Monday, nobody in the NASCAR world cared about the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing team's victory. As Hamlin and Blaney were racing to the checkered flag on the last lap, Ryan Newman was sent flipping and crashing after colliding with Blaney and spinning into the outside wall. Newman was removed from his car by NASCAR's safety/medical crew and immediately taken to nearby Halifax Medical Center. A couple hours later, NASCAR announced Newman was in serious condition, but his injuries were considered non-life threatening. Daytona 500 crash: Watch the big wreck that collected half the field in 2020 NASCAR season-opener

"The big one" seemed inevitable as drivers increased their aggressiveness with 17 laps to go in the 2020 Daytona 500. Sure enough, the massive crash occurred on the Daytona International Speedway backstretch on Lap 184, a wreck that brought out a red flag with 16 laps to go. Joey Logano, operating on the outside of a two-wide field, was pushing Aric Almirola down the backstretch, but things went wrong when Almirola reached the back bumper of Brad Keselowski. Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury 2 fight date, start time, card, PPV price & odds for heavyweight title rematch

Arguably the most significant heavyweight title fight since Lennox Lewis-Mike Tyson in June 2002 takes place on Saturday night from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Deontay Wilder is set to defend the WBC heavyweight championship against lineal champion Tyson Fury in a highly anticipated rematch after they went to a split draw in December 2018, one of the best fights of the year. Fury (29-0-1, 20 KOs) outboxed Wilder for the majority of the contest. But Wilder has the equalizer — a patented right hand, the likes of which boxing rarely sees in a lifetime. After knocking down Fury in the eighth round, Wilder was down on two scorecards heading into the 12th round and looking for knockout to win. WWE PPV schedule 2020: Dates, locations for every announced 2020 wrestling event

WWE is ringing the bell on the new year with a whole slate of shows. Coronavirus' impact on life in China could potentially cause NHL stick shortage, per report

The coronavirus' impact on life in China has reportedly made an unforseen impact on the NHL as equipment companies that primarily make their hockey sticks in the country have halted production. NBC Sports hockey analyst Pierre Maguire first made this claim during the broadcast of a Buffalo Sabres-Detroit Red Wings game on Thursday. On Saturday, the Boston Globe's Matt Porter reported that while hockey stick manufacturers disputed that there is a "major shortage" of sticks, the situations could quickly leave many players shorthanded. According to the Globe, Bauer, CCM and True Hockey all make their pro sticks in China, providing approximately 75 percent of NHLers with their sticks each year based on data from Gear Geek. NHL players typically use new sticks in every game and have several available to them during any given game. Modern sticks made of composite fibers commonly break during games; a single player can easily lose three or more sticks on a particularly unl...

Why did Kobe Bryant win an Oscar? Remembering his Academy Award for short film 'Dear Basketball'

In 2018, Kobe Bryant became the first former professional athlete to be nominated for and win an Academy Award after his film "Dear Basketball" won Best Animated Short Film at the Oscars. Patrick Mahomes has 'even more endorsement potential than Peyton Manning,' expert says

Lakers roster rumors: Dion Waiters an option after Darren Collison stays in retirement

After the Lakers struck out at the NBA trade deadline, they held hope they could reinforce their backcourt by luring veteran point guard Darren Collison away from retirement. Collison, who had been reconsidering his time away from basketball, decided this weekend he wasn't ready to return to the game. Los Angeles, then, is left with few options to improve ahead of the postseason, where it will likely need to overcome the Clippers to reach the NBA Finals. One player the Lakers are reportedly now considering is Dion Waiters, who was exiled by the Heat earlier this season for his off-court conduct, traded to the Grizzlies and then waived on Sunday. Waiters passed out on Miami's team plane in November after reportedly eating too many marijuana gummies. He has also lashed out at coaches over playing time. Despite his sometimes peculiar antics, Waiters can be a prolific scorer when on top of his game. The 28-year-old has averaged 13.2 points per game over the course of his career...

The XFL announced trimmed-down rosters for its 2020 reboot season, and among the names are plenty of players you'll recognize when the new football league kicks off in February. In total there are 416 players in the XFL, 52 for each of the eight teams. Those are a lot of names to sort through, and there will be plenty you may not recognize. Fans of the AAF (Alliance of American Football) will recognize plenty of the names — a lot of players moved over from the now-defunct football league. Why isn't Colin Kaepernick in the XFL?

Colin Kaepernick hasn't played a game in the NFL since 2016, but he has stated many times he has an interest in playing football. The former 49ers quarterback made headlines during the preseason in 2016 when he sat for the national anthem as a protest against racial injustice and systematic oppression in the United States. He became a free agent after the season and went unsigned. In 2017, he filed a grievance against the NFL and its owners, accusing them of colluding to keep him out of the league. In 2019, he withdrew the grievance after reaching a settlement. While NFL owners decided not to sign Kaepernick, the free agent quarterback has expressed a desire to return. Last year, the NFL planned a public workout for Kaepernick and invited all 32 teams to attend.
